Almost time to head back to lovely San Diego

The novelty this year is that we are trying home swapping for the first time.

Swapping adds a whole new dimension to our planning. Valuables and clutter (mostly the latter sadly!) have to be disposed of or boxed up and stored, the apartment meticulously cleaned, new bedding bought and a book written…..

What I imagined would be a few notes about the boiler and recycling has turned into a veritable encyclopaedia, who knew one tiny home could be so complicated.

Then there’s the maps, bus routes, places of interest, shopping tips……. And still I expect a panicky call on day one about the one thing I will have omitted.

Memories of when we were here last year. Sunny and cold that day and not a sign of a rattlesnake anywhere!

We signed up to a swapping site on impulse. Scanned the properties on offer (it’s just like Tinder for grown ups!) and contacted a couple of people. To our surprise we got an immediate response and within a few days we were sorted with an eight week swap.
San Diego is getting expensive to rent and so is London so this was definitely a good way around the money problem

Luckily our swapee was headed to London from San Diego for a long weekend so I was able to meet up with her for a coffee which helped to calm my nerves and we are in regular contact now via email, but still have some reservations about a stranger making themselves at home in our little nest… I’m sure this will make me a better (even better!) housesitter!

Exactly a month today until we set off, first stop is to visit friends in Florida and explore an area that neither Barry nor I know well. My experience is a cruise ship stop in Key West where I spent my few hours on the terrace of a gay hotel drinking the owner’s special Bloody Marys… I have zero recollection!
